Red Asphalt V
Red Asphalt V-- Just out! Brand new for 2006. This latest video is hosted by
a teenager and is primarily intended to influence teen attitudes toward safe
driving, although most adults would surely benefit from viewing it as well. 42,000 people are killed each year in the U.S. as a result of car
crashes. That's equivalent to the loss of two jumbo jets every week.
The video points out that the number one cause of death for teens is car
crashes. There are more than a dozen graphic scenes of dead motorists
consisting of mangled faces and bodies as well as intestines and severed limbs
on the road. It is probably the most graphic of all the Red Asphalt videos and
promises to be the most effective. There are several interviews with the
families and friends of the victims displaying the devastating effect that the
death of their loved one has had on their lives. This video is sure to catch
the attention of the viewer and will hopefully lead to less injuries and
fatalities on the road.
The DVD also includes a Spanish version. Only on the DVD, not the VHS.

Red Asphalt IV
This video came out in 1998. It is less gruesome than the previous ones, yet many find it more touching due to the fact that so many young drivers are injured or lose their lives. Their family and friends are interviewed and it is quite disheartening. For you teens, please remember that, aside from drivers over the age of 65, you have the highest fatality rate of any age group. Contrary to popular belief, you are not made of steel. Be careful on the road. Don't do something foolish that you will regret for the rest of your life.

Red Asphalt III
Produced in 1989, SUVs were just coming into vogue. The DUI laws were still not nearly as strict as they are today leading to some unfortunate incidents on the highways. One particular scene involves an intoxicated driver who rolled over his SUV on the freeway. Unfortunately, the poor victim had his skull severed in half as the vehicle rolled, leaving half of his brain on the roadway to be picked up by the emergency personnel. Please don't drink and drive.

Red Asphalt II
This video came out in 1979. It seems like everyone back then was driving around a huge 3 ton gas guzzler. Normally the larger the car that you drive the safer you will be in an accident, but many people still did not use their seat belts in those days, even though most cars came equipped with them, and the extremely high speed limits contributed to some absolutely devastating accidents. Try to keep your vehicle as close to the speed limit as possible while going with the flow of traffic.

Red Asphalt I This is the original Red Asphalt from the early 60s. It is very interesting to see all these classic 50 year old cars. Unfortunately, they didn't come equipped with seat belts, much less airbags, so you can image the severity of some of these accident scenes. Did you know that you are 25 times more likely to be killed in an auto accident if you are thrown from your car? Make sure to always use your seat belt.

Signal 30 Part II: Tragedy & Hope
Nearly 50 years after the release of the all time classic highway safety film, Signal 30, we are pleased to make available to you the new Signal 30 Part II: Tragedy & Hope.
The tragedy is the terrible crashes that take the lives of many and permanently injure others. The hope is in the preventive measures that all of us can take to help avoid such catastrophes.
There's a warning to the audience at the beginning, and for good reason. These images are graphic and gruesome as well as heartbreaking. Families and loved ones separated forever because of tragic automobile crashes. In addition to the highly disturbing images of the dead and dying motorists, safe driving habits such as always buckling your safety belt, observing speed limits, and never drinking and driving are encouraged in an effort to avoid these needless incidents.
Many highly graphic crash scenes are viewed and analyzed. This video is not only difficult to watch, but powerful when digested. It will definitely leave a lasting impression on viewers and will hopefully reduce the number of needless and devastating crashes on our roads.

Signal 30
The automobiles are from the '50s and the commentator?s voice is delivered with an ominous monotone, but the words still have the same meaning today. The crash scenes are stomach turning and graphic, and anyone who views this tape will experience an unforgettable sensation; watching and listening to death, the screams of the seriously injured, the loading of a body bag.
This "mother of all traffic safety" film was taken on-the-scene and many before any emergency medical help arrives. Every scene shows the grizzly results of speeding, drinking and driving, and engaging in other dangerous driving activities. At first, it may seem cruel, cold and harsh to make someone watch this tape, but is there a better lesson on carelessness? Warn the audience, and then watch their reaction to carnage on the highway. It?s a very powerful message. Painful to watch but absolutely unforgettable and sure to leave an indelible message for all drivers who view it.

Highways of Agony
This is a most disturbing video, but it?s supposed to be. It?s nearly 4 decades old but still powerful and extremely graphic. The opening screen sets the pace: "Due to the graphic nature of this video it is not recommended for children under the age of 14."
Immediately, it begins with bloody torturous images of death and injury on the highways. Yes, it has been many years since the films were taken but the impact is tremendous. In fact, it might be pointed out that this was an era when few automobiles had any kind of restraint device installed, so consequently, many drivers and/or passengers were ejected in the course of a crash. Many safety features that are now standard equipment on most cars were non-existent.
An ambulance was slow to arrive and there were no paramedics or emergency medical personnel standing by to be called into action. Crash victims often died before any medical help arrived. We?ve come a long way with many improvements in safety features for automobiles, safety awareness programs, better highways and roads, and added law enforcement. However, there is still death and injury on our roadways and video brings the message home in dramatic fashion.

A Little History Lesson:
The social guidance films series is an extensive collection of propaganda films from the 1950's and 60's, when fear, sex, drugs, war, and civil rights were the dominant social guidance topics. When the U.S. servicemen returned home from fighting abroad, the economy began to soar, as a booming population whole-heartedly bought into the rising consumerist American culture. Everything seemed great. But wait - what about those crazy teenagers, susceptible to dangerous, abnormal and subversive influences? To attempt to safeguard American standards, the U.S. government (with the help of many corporations and big businesses) began a campaign to strengthen communities, families, and the overall moral atmosphere in America. As part of this campaign, dozens of films were sponsored that encouraged viewers to follow the social norms of the day. These movies were shown in schools across the country and became quite popular as the production techniques improved and funding for these films increased. Originally, most of the films dealt with the subject of social etiquette and public behavior. However, as the collection of films and filmmakers grew, more challenging, risqué themes were tackled, such as: tobacco, alcohol and drug abuse, sexual abstinence, societal outcasts and strangers, homosexuality, and racial, gender and religious prejudice. Eventually, a film was made for almost every imaginable topic, including less controversial issues such as: community awareness, developing strong friendships, getting married the "right way," respecting the autonomy of elders and those in power, health and hygiene issues, and, yes...even Driver Education! These films are not just entertaining and informative, they are a part of our nation's history.

Hell's Highway: The True Story of Highway Safety Films
In 1960, accountant Richard Wayman and photographer Phyllis Vaughn started the Cleveland-based Highway Safety Foundation after amassing a sizeable collection of photos taken at auto crash sites and shooting the all time classic educational film, SIGNAL 30, which incorporated crash site footage. They went on to produce a number of now-legendary auto safety films (including WHEELS OF TRAGEDY and MECHANIZED DEATH) incorporating extremely grisly real-life imagery, which were shown to unsuspecting high school students across the United States in the 1960s and 70s. This two-DVD set takes a probing look into the strange story of the people who made these bizarre and haunting films. While the subject matter is sensationalistic by nature, one is never doubtful that those who made the films did so out of a well-intentioned sense of duty and purpose.
